How to Choose a Dentist You'll Actually Stay With

Central Florida gains new residents constantly, and finding a dentist is one of those errands that slides down the list until something hurts. That's the worst time to be choosing one.

A few things I'd look for if I were in your position.

Ask what happens when there's an emergency. Does the practice see urgent cases same-day, or route you to an emergency clinic? This matters more than almost anything else on the list, and it rarely comes up until you need it.

Ask how they handle treatment planning. You should leave a first visit understanding what's urgent, what's optional, and what can be watched. If everything is presented as urgent, that's worth noticing.

Check whether they're in-network before your first visit, not after. Call your insurance directly rather than relying on a website listing, which can lag behind reality.

Pay attention to whether you're rushed. A first appointment that includes a real conversation about your history, your concerns, and what you want from your teeth is a good sign about everything that follows.

Bring your previous records if you can get them, especially recent X-rays. It gives me a baseline to compare against which makes it far easier to catch changes early.
